Malaysian-born MasterChef Australia 2010 winner and Malaysia Kitchen ambassador, Adam Liaw said “I’m excited to be sharing my love for Malaysian food with Australia.”
“Australians’ knowledge of food and their palates have developed a lot over the past 10 years, encouraged partly by popular shows such as MasterChef. This is definitely the start of the hottest new culinary craze – Malaysian food.
It’s great to see Australians going mad over the variety and complexity of Malaysian cuisine, and adding traditional Malaysian dishes to their repertoire of favourites” he added.
Joining Adam at last night’s preview event were several other high-profile Australian food personalities including MasterChef 2010 contestant and fellow Malaysian, Alvin Quah and journalist, presenter and event director, Joanna Savill.
The campaign, Malaysia Kitchen Australia is an initiative created by the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), which aims to increase Australians’ awareness of Malaysian cooking and encourage them to experience the diverse tastes of Malaysian cuisine in restaurants across the country.
Malaysia Kitchen Australia follows the successful roll out of Malaysia Kitchen in London, UK and New York, USA. Celebrity chef, Rick Stein is one of the official Malaysia Kitchen chef ambassadors in the UK and Australia, encouraging Australians to enjoy Malaysian food both at home, and in local restaurants.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MATRADE, Dato’ Mohamad Kamarudin Hassan expressed his enthusiasm in the program: “We urge Australians to visit the Malaysia Kitchen Food Market before it closes on Friday 18 February, to enjoy the delicious range of dishes on offer” he said.
“Those unable to make it to the event should visit the new Malaysia Kitchen Facebook page (facebook.com/MKInsiders) for information on Malaysian cuisine and restaurants.”
